SBF 289-302 STROKER
BLOCK CLEARANCE TOOL INSTRUCTIONS
-
Arrange block as shown in
photo #1. With a
permanent marker, mark the FRONT of the block "Driver" and
"Passenger" as the block would set in the car (see photo #1). Mark
the holes in the stroker tool as seen in photo #1.
-
Place the tool on the
block to mark the front driver side cylinder (cylinder #5), locate the tool
with main cap bolts in the #1 pair of marked holes on the tool, ensure the
solid 'wing' of the tool faces the front of the block (photo #1). The bent
portion of the tool with the large marking hole, will lie just over the edge
cast cylinder wall extension. Mark the area inside the marking hole (photo
#2) with a permanent marker for later removal with a die grinder/dremel
tool. Here is a sample
of what it will look like.
-
Mark the remaining
cylinders on the drivers side as discussed above with the exception of the
rear driver cylinder (cylinder #8) which will use the #2 pair of marked
holes (photo #3).
-
Place the tool on the
block to mark the rear passenger side cylinder (cylinder #4), locate the tool
with main cap bolts in the #1 pair of marked holes on the tool, ensure the
solid 'wing' of the tool faces the rear of the block (photo #4). The bent
portion of the tool with the large marking hole, will lie just over the edge
cast cylinder wall extension. Mark the area inside the marking hole with a permanent marker for later removal with a die grinder/dremel
tool.
-
Mark the remaining
cylinders on the drivers side as discussed above with the exception of the
rear driver cylinder (cylinder #1) which will use the #3 pair of marked
holes (photo #5).
-
Use appropriate safety
measures (safety glasses, dust mask, etc) and carefully remove the ENTIRE
marked area with a suitable carbide tipped die grinder or equivalent (photo
#6, photo #7). Removing the entire marked area and perhaps a touch more will ensure a
comfortable clearance with no strength compromise.
-
The Ford block machining
boss will need clearance to the lower portion just above the mark made to
the drivers side front cylinder (#5). This boss can also be completely
removed (Photo #8)
